10 BIGGEST MYTHS ABOUT BRA

Talking about our breasts are a taboo subject for most of us. And not talking about them openly only leads to myths and misconceptions. As if those weren’t enough, bra myths only add to the confusion. So before you go spreading some lies about bras, we are sharing the 10 biggest myths about bra that you should know:

1. Sleeping with a bra makes your breasts perky.

NOPE. Many women think that wearing a bra while you sleep will magically make your breasts perky. But this is a huge myth. Not only it doesn’t help your breasts to become perky, it is super uncomfortable to wear them bras while you sleep too!

2. Underwire bras up breast cancer risk.

There is no evidence to support this. This myth sprung up in the 90s from the book “Dressed to Kill” published in 1995 when the writers claimed that these bras trapped toxins in the breast tissue and increased the risk of cancer. But according to The Scientific American, there is no evidence whatsoever that backs this claim.

3. Women stay the same size their entire lives.

Luciani, the author of The Bra Book said that hormones, aging, losing and gaining weight will change the size of your breasts. In fact, she suggested women to do yearly fittings to make sure that they are wearing the right size. If you’ve been wearing or buying the same size for 3 years, it’s time to get yourself fitted!

4. Bras have same sizes for different brands.

Nope, just like other clothing items, bra sizes too differ and you might need a size smaller or larger depending on the style or brand you choose. A C cup at Victoria’s Secret is not a C cup at Lilli Lingerie. It’s just not. Each brand has their own ‘fit model’. So you know now that you cannot walk into a store and say “size 32C please.”

5. Sleeping on your side results in uneven breasts.

All of us have one breast naturally bigger than the other. Sleeping on one side doesn’t do anything to your breast size and there is no truth in this idea.

6. You don’t have to wash your bra that often.

Maybe you’ve heard you need to wash your bra once a week. Or twice a month. Or almost never. Even though women wear a bra right next to their skin, there’s the belief that you don’t have to wash your bra that often. Wrong. The dirt and oils in our skin can break down the elasticity in the fabric, so it’s important to wash your bras regularly.

7. How you put on your bra doesn’t matter.

There’s a lot of discussion on the correct way on how to put a bra. You can clasp in the front and spin it around. Or place one side in at a time. You can reach behind and hook your bra that way if you want. The options are infinite. But there is NO one correct way to put on a bra.

8. For bigger breast, wear training bras.

NOPE. If you are a big size, you can definitely find a cute, sexy, fun bra. But, you might just have to spend a little bit more on that. Training bras or sports bras for that matter are designed for comfort and have nothing to do with your breast size.

9. A light coloured bra is less visible.

Not true. Most women think wearing a white bra under a white shirt makes your bra invisible. If you want to go invisible, wear a bra that matches the colour of your skin best only then will it be less discoverable. Nude bras are your best bet for this purpose.

10. Not wearing bra can lead to saggy breasts.

Most women believe that not wearing a bra results in sagging breasts. But this is a myth, because not wearing a bra only brings your breasts to their original shape and does not initiate sagging although it might seem like that. We hope that this will change your beliefs about bras that were not true.
